Kansas City is the largest city, and second largest metropolitan area, in the state of Missouri. It is the central city of the Kansas City metro, which straddles the Kansas-Missouri border. Kansas City sits on the western border, Most of the city is located in Jackson County, but portions of the city spill into Clay, Cass, and Platte counties. It is one of Jackson County's two county seats (the other being Independence). The city is known as the City of Fountains.

Country Club Plaza(PLAZA) as the first shopping center in the world designed to accommodate shoppers arriving by automobile. Established in 1922 by J. C. Nichols and designed architecturally after Seville, Spain, the Plaza comprises high-end retail establishments, restaurants, and entertainment venues, as well as offices.

Several companies have their headquarters in Kansas City. AMC Theaters, Boulevard Brewing Company, Cerner and Hallmark are a few of the more recognized companies.

The ARTS are well represented in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Repertory Theatre is the metropolitan area's top professional theatre company. Starlight Theatre is an 8,105-seat outdoor theatre. The Kansas City Symphony and the Kansas City Ballet perform at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The Civic Opera Theater of Kansas City performs at the downtown Folly Theater and at the UMKC Performing Arts Center.

Kansas City jazz in the 1930s marked the transition from big bands to the bebop influence of the 1940s and is a large part of Kansas City's history.

Kansas City is famous for its steak and barbecue. The Kansas City Strip steak is similar to the New York Strip. Along with Texas,Memphis, North and South Carolina, Kansas City is lauded as a "world capital of barbecue." More than 90 barbecue restaurants operate in the metropolitan area. The American Royal each fall hosts what it claims is the world's biggest barbecue contest.

Kansas City is home of the 2015 World Series Champion KC Royals, The KC Cheifs, and Sporting KC.
